Meet Friba

Friba is one of the first refugees we started working with in 2015. We have watched her blossom into a successful entrepreneur and community leader. Before Friba immigrated to the United States she created a school in Afghanistan and ran it as principal. According to Friba, “education [was] a big challenge for all people, but especially for girls.” Her goals were centered around increasing educational access to girls before the continued war forced her to seek asylum in the United States. She wanted better opportunities for her own children. Here, she felt strange. Despite having a Bachelor’s Degree and English skills she was jobless. “Through Glocally Connected (GC) we feel like we are a member of a family,” Friba says. Here she found a found a community of like-minded individuals who also cherish education and female-empowerment. GC has helped Friba create a catering company called “A Taste Of Afghanistan” and continues to support her entrepreneurial efforts.

“When you educate a girl or woman, you educate society -- a family and society.”
